No two adoption stories are ever the same. Mine is no exception. I have no recollection of the day my parents told me I was adopted, it's always been a normal thing for me- one of the things that makes me, me.
I met my birthmother thirteen years ago- when I was thirteen years old, and it was such a blessing. I'll never forget the feeling of seeing someone who looks like me. It was startling, and awesome.
Although she lives nearly 700 miles away, whenever we have the chance to connect, it's always quite special.
I hadn't seen her in over a year, but last night we sat at Stella's for hours catching up on every aspect of our lives. We've both had a lot of change happen in our lives over the past three months and it was so nice to have a good old heart-to-heart, not really as mother and daughter, but more so friends that share an incredibly strong bond.
Her laugh is probably my favourite thing about her. It sounds exactly like mine.
